1. What is traffic source #
The traffic source refers to the platform where you buy advertisements (ad exchanges, ad networks,…). If you’re a partner or directly buy traffic from another source, please add a custom traffic source.
2. How to set up a custom traffic source #
Before you start a campaign, you need a steady flow of visitors, which you get from traffic sources. To set up a campaign in Permate, you have to configure the traffic source element. Here’s how to add a new traffic source:
Custom traffic source
Creating a custom element means you’ll manually enter all the necessary details to match your traffic source with Permate. Keep your traffic source documentation nearby for quick reference.
- In Permate, go to Tracker >> select Traffic source >> select the +New menu and the Traffic source option from the drop-down menu >> Choose your custom traffic source >> select Next.
- Choose the Workspace from the dropdown menu where you want to assign this traffic source. For further details, you can refer to the Workspaces: Overview article.
- Enter a unique name in the Traffic source name field.
- Choose traffic source status:
- Active: Traffic source will be displayed when creating a campaign.
- Inactive: Traffic source will be hidden when creating a campaign
- (optional) Type related tags. It helps you find traffic source-related essays.
- Pick the currency you want to use for costs from the Currency dropdown menu. By default, it’s USD. If your traffic source operates in a different currency, select the appropriate option from the Cost Currency dropdown menu. Permate will use this currency to track cost data and once recorded, it can’t be changed.
- The Parameters section enables you to pass additional visit characteristics from the traffic source platform, for example, source or zone ID, that can be then used as a basis for targeting and optimization. All of them are automatically appended to the Campaign URL in the configuration of a campaign created per traffic source entity.
Type in parameters according to your traffic source platform’s documentation.
Definition:
- Permate tokens (cố định đã được Permate define): can be used to pass traffic source data to a landing page, an offer, or back to the traffic source when sending back conversion data.
- Display name: Name on your report
- Traffic source parameter is a static value used in your campaign URL. When the traffic source replaces your tokens, Permate uses these parameters to be able to recognise what data the tokens contain. Sample parameters: keyword, price, tracking id. Copy it from your traffic source documentation.
- Traffic source tokens will be dynamically replaced by your traffic source during the redirection from the ad to the destination page. Copy it from your traffic source documentation.
- (Optional) Forward conversion information: Use this option if you want to inform your traffic source about conversions recorded in Permate. 2 options
- Not accept: Not forwarding
- Accept: Postback URL: The most bullet-proof (server-to-server) way to deliver information about conversion to the traffic source. If this URL includes a unique click ID generated by the source, the traffic source can identify the user who initially clicked on the ad and converted. Copy it from your traffic source documentation.
